SHIRLEY BICKE'L EVANS
Artist Statement - shirley bicke'l evans

My paintings are personal statements of my love for the sky, sea, land and people — statements that are characterized by bold, sweeping brush strokes alive with motion and color.

The sky inspires me. I always marvel at the array of colors parading past in movement and harmony. The soft billowy clouds reflecting the vibrant colors, and yet allowing a delicate rainbow to shine through, bringing so much solace to my heart.

The ocean fascinates me, intrigues me with the movement — always changing, never still. Yet in all its fierceness and importance it still respects and reflects the sky in moods and colors.

I marvel at the symmetry and beauty of the wind-filled square-rigged ships and the men who sail them. I watch the sailboats with their bright spinnakers racing to the finish line. In my paintings I capture that wondrous moment of meeting of sail, sea and sky.

I am a member of the American Society of Marine Artists and the Northwest Oil Painters Guild. My studio is in Vancouver, Washington overlooking the Columbia River with a view of Mt. Hood in all its majesty.   www.bickelstudio.com
