Kelly Otis, Artist's Statement

I have always been a photographer, but have always had a love for the sparkle of glass.  Three years ago I decided to dabble with fused glass, and the rest is history.  I love the experimentation that comes with fused glass, and am always excited to open the kiln.  I have recently found my niche, which is negative space.  I like to infuse color into blank spaces, thus I make my art incorporating clear glass, to give the illusion of nothing there, in parts of my art.  I also like using mirror, to show that you are part of the art.  I insist on making things that will be used everyday, such as knobs and handles, clocks, wall lights and dinner ware.  My next goal is to incorporate my photography into my glass, and then my art world will be aligned with the universe.
